Approved! Starting at 7:50 min. we find a comparison of scriptures that may cause some concern amongst our viewers. It is suggested that both of the following scriptures are referring to punishment, which is not compatible with the Bible Commentary. [Isa.1:18] is a call to and a promise of purification with God’s help, as can be seen when read in context. [Num. 12:10] is Miriam’s punishment for speaking against God’s appointed servant. In our Bible Commentary in Volume #4 on page 99, we find the following, [Isa. 1:18] “God here assures us that however guilty we may have been in the past, it is possible to be restored to purity and holiness. This is a promise that with the help of God the sinner may secure complete mastery over his every besetment.” It is made clear that in the phrase “white as snow” God is referring to purification from sin, not punishment. The word “white” in Hebrew is, "Laban," and is defined as “to be purified or be white.” In our Bible Commentary in Volume #10 on page 862, we find the following, [Num. 12: 10] “Aaron received no physical punishment. Evidently, the whole outcry was worked up by Miriam, who now received her just deserts.” The word referring to her sin is, "chatta'ah," the same Hebrew word is translated “punishment,” since it refers to both sin and its punishment. In this verse, “Miriam became leprous, white as snow.” the word white [purity] was not in the original text, it was added by the translators. We may get some calls concerning this difference. The point being made, that God does not leave us in sin but calls us from sin, is still clearly conveyed.
