Not recommended. Mark 2:23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the Sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. (At approx. 33:05 min.) In reference to Mark 2:23 the speaker paraphrases Jesus as saying, “My boys are hungry and they need food to eat and I refuse to let them starve on the Sabbath day because you said we can not eat here,” so instead of Jesus stopping them, Jesus encourages them to keep on eating and as you keep on eating, trample on the grain and eat as much as you want… The question was not where but when. (At approx. 37:10 min.) The Speaker says, “The Pharisees’ indignation with Jesus is the fact that they are eating the grain, they are trampling on the grain. Jesus and His disciples are destroying and eating the grain. They are destroying and eating the product. You are going to get this as I break it down. They are destroying and eating their profits.” Verse 24 tells us the concern was not profit but breaking Sabbath law. (At approx. 38:20 min.) The speaker says, “Jesus says, ‘why are you harvesting and keeping this grain from the people that really need it?’ And so He intentionally tells them to eat and trample on it.” OT law allowed for this need along with gleaning. (At approx. 39:20min.) The speaker paraphrases Jesus as saying, “Because the Father has given Me permission to have all power here on earth, I will engage in civil disobedience. Because the change has not come and because I am Lord of the Sabbath, I am giving my disciples permission to trample and eat this grain because I am driven by the Father which is in heaven.” Ex 22:28 “Thou shalt not revile the gods, (judges) nor curse the ruler of thy people.” Conclusion: Jesus came to exemplify the Father’s all loving and merciful character by loving His neighbors and even His enemies. Not by trampling, destroying, or engaging in civil disobedience, nor by giving His disciples permission to do so, as suggested in this message. SDA BC Vol. 5 p.586 “Upon any other day of the week than the Sabbath the action of the disciples would undoubtedly have passed unchallenged, for OT law specifically provided that a hungry person could eat of the fruit or grain of a field as he passed.” SDA BC Vol. 5 p.586 “Undoubtedly the disciples were not walking through the grain, treading it down, but along a path that went through the fields.” Lu 20:25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s… These words of Jesus’ do not give license to trample on another’s possessions.
