Not Approved. The mini-series presented by Dennis Priebe on sin is not approved for airing because of the following reason: The speaker addresses a historically controversial topic within the SDA Church: which nature did Christ assume during the Encarnation. In programs GMTB # 3069 & 3070 he attempts to define what sin is. In doing so he polarizes two major schools of thought on this issue in the theological world. He identifies the first definition of sin as the nature which we are born with, which is a "destructive and negative force" that leads us in the wrong direction. And seeing that we are born with this nature we are then constituted sinners upon birth. He dispells this as incorrect and not supported by the Bible. The second definition he gives is that sin is a matter of choice. He mentions that though it is true that we have a sinful, "destructive force" that is our nature, it is not our nature that condemns us before God. He states, "The sin that condemns us before God is our choice...When we say 'No God, I'd rather do it my way.'" He purports that, in his opinion, this is the true Biblical position. But this is not true. Unfortunately Mr. Priebe is misrepresenting truth. He is co-mingling truth with unsubstantiated biblical information. Though it is true that choice has its place, the sin that condemns us before God is the result of Adam's sin, not our choices. This is what constitutes all the human race as sinners in need of a Savior. This is the sin that condemns us before God. Paul states in 1 Corinthians 15:22, "In Adam all die." Ellen White concurs this in the following statement: "Adam was required to render perfect obedience to God, not only in his own behalf, but in behalf of his posterity. God promised him that if he would stand the test of temptation, preserving his allegiance to the Creator during the great trail to which he would be subjected, his obedience would insure his acceptance and favor with God. He would then be forever established in holiness and happiness, and these blessings would extend to all of his posterity. But Adam failed to bear the test. And because he revolted against God's law, all his descendants have been sinners." [Manuscript 126, 1901] In these presetations Mr. Priebe is advocating a "different" gospel. One that is not in accord with the Bible or the Spirit of Propehcy. If these programs were to be aired, it would only serve to confuse and further kindle the controversy surrounding this issue. Mr. Priebe is not alone in his stance. Many conservative Adventists have followed this train of thought and have adopted a model of salvation by "grace" and works. Thus the emphasis on acheiving sinlessness, perfectionism and how it can and needs to be obtained in this life, in order to be saved and receive everlasting life. Therefore I cannot stress enough the importance of retaining these programs and not airing them any more. Even though 12 years ago they were "approved" for airing, we have come a long way in our understanding of truth regarding this issue and we must be faithful in preaching the true "Everlasting Gospel" to a dying world in need of a Savior.
